THE BRIEF:
Working with director Geoff Moore from 'moving being productions' and a cast of outside professional actors, a contemporary dancer and an opera singer.
3 week design and production time on a very small scale budget.
Design requirements:
Providing a set that would provide a harmonious accompaniment and surface for Doug's A.V (which is a set withing its own right).
Design decision: To reclaim and re-use the Hamlet curtain, reapplying it's grandeur in scale and visual expanse.
I split it into three vertical panels that could be flow in and out of the space accordingly to shut off and expand the spatial environments for the actors.
Applying a selection of distressed, stretched, pulled and torn papers and treating them with inks and chalks I created a Kiefer inspired textured backdrop for projected photos and media, adding a tonal quality and feel that supported the theme of traveling back to the past and shedding light onto memories.
